Good afternoon, dear professors,
My name is Wu, Chi-Ming. I graduated from the School of Chinese Medicine, where I majored in both Chinese and Western medicine. I am currently in the second year of my master's program at the Graduate Institute of Acupuncture Science. It is my great honor to be here today to participate in this examination.
I was born and raised in Chiayi City, in a traditional family and cultural environment. Since childhood, I have been deeply interested in traditional culture—particularly in herbal medicine, Chinese poetry, and painting. This passion inspired me to pursue a dual-major in Chinese and Western medicine during my undergraduate studies. After graduation, I realized the importance of further education and research training. I believe it is not only my responsibility but also my obligation to continue learning and contributing to the field.
During my master’s program, my thesis advisors are Dr. Fong and Dr. Lee, and I also work in Dr. Tang’s laboratory. My main research interests focus on the mechanisms of osteoporosis and bone tumor metastasis. So far, I have completed three poster presentations and one oral presentation at academic conferences. In February, I participated in the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) meeting in Las Vegas, where I presented my research—an experience that greatly broadened my academic perspective. My master’s thesis is titled:
“Study of the Electroacupuncture Effects on Osteoporosis in Ovariectomized Rats.”
In addition to my research work, I also serve as a teaching assistant for the course “Acupuncture Science.” I act as a bridge between the professors and students, and I have been involved in both clinical skills training and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) programs at the university.
Regarding community service, I have actively participated in numerous charity medical clinics in areas such as Xinshe and Xigang, and I plan to join another clinic in Zhuolan this summer. I strongly believe in using my medical knowledge to serve society and improve public health.
As for my motivation to pursue a Ph.D. degree, my primary reason is my deep interest in medical research related to Chinese medicine. Our university is widely recognized as the leading graduate school in this field in Taiwan. If given the opportunity to be admitted, I will dedicate myself wholeheartedly to becoming a capable and responsible Ph.D. candidate. I also appreciate that the professors in this program are not only accomplished researchers but also experienced clinicians. I hope to gain valuable clinical insights from them while continuing my academic journey.
Thank you for listening to my self-introduction.
